11.18.2009 : Porsche Approves Winter Tires for Young and Old Classics

Porsche Approves Winter Tires Specifically for Young and Old Classics

Extensive Tire Test Program for Older Model Series

winter tiresStuttgart - November 18, 2009 - Porsche has extended its demanding approval process for winter tires to include tires for young and old classics. Offering customers this unusual service, the German manufacturer of sports cars enables drivers of older models to use the best available products on their car. Porsche is therefore providing valuable help and orientation particularly in the process of choosing new winter tires with safe driving characteristics also on snow and ice. Porsche one of the few car makers to offer such an elaborate tire approval process.

Well over 70 percent of all Porsche sports cars ever built still exist today and are still driven actively in most cases - in both summer and winter. Indeed, even classic Porsche models more than 20 years old still offer the kind of performance today one would expect of a modern sports car. But the tires fitted when such old and new classics were still in production have no longer been available for years. Tire treads and rubber compounds have changed in an ongoing process of development, thus influencing the driving behaviour of such old Porsche models.

Numerous Porsche models built in former years, among them the 911, 928, 964, 993, and 996 and all the way to the first Boxsters, have been tested on countless laps at the Arctic Driving Center in the Finnish town of Rovaniemi. The criteria to be fulfilled by the tires tested in order to receive approval by Porsche are so strict that not all tires met the test requirements. The characteristics and features typical of an older air-cooled 911, for example, form an challenge not easy to overcome.

Information on which tires are recommended for which Porsche model is available on Porsche's web site and is also available at all Porsche dealerships.

10.20.2009 : Porsche to Build New Museum

ATLANTA, February 8, 2005 --- Dr. Ing. h.c.F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, today announced details of the new Porsche museum in Zuffenhausen, a suburb of Stuttgart where the company has been based for more than 50 years. Intended to replace the current museum housed in a small building in the factory compound, design of the 50-million-Euro project, to be located adjacent to the factory on the main thoroughfare in the city, was awarded to Delugan Meissl architects of Vienna, Austria.

A total of 170 European architectural firms bid on the project, and Porsche chose Delugan Meissl from among ten finalists. When completed, Porsche expects the number of museum and factory visitors to increase from 80,000 per year to more than 200,000. While the current museum can house only 20 cars, the new one at “Porscheplatz” will display more than 80. Construction will begin later this year and is schedule for completion in 2007.

The main exhibition area will represent Porsche chronologically and give a post-1948 product history. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience various ‘theme islands’ including: Targa Florio, The 917 Era, Le Mans and Evolution 911. The first floor will also house the Porsche archive, the workshop used to restore historic vehicles, a display called “Experiencing the Porsche Cosmos,” and a chronology of Porsche history prior to 1948, showcasing the designs of Ferdinand Porsche, who worked as an engineer for a variety of companies and created celebrated cars such as the Mercedes-Benz SSK, Auto Union Grand Prix race car and the original Volkswagen.

Amenities will include a Porsche shop, a visitor’s restaurant, a coffee bar and an exclusive restaurant with a large roof terrace. An adjacent parking facility will have a 300-car capacity, which will allow outside groups to use the museum for events.

“This design is innovative, modern and challenging,” said Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, Porsche AG Chairman and CEO. “This new development will highlight our parent plant in Zuffhausen, extending our reach far beyond the borders of Stuttgart.”

The new Porsche museum will appear detached, forming a monolithic body that appears to hover above the ground and the first floor level. The building will contain an exhibition area of approximately 5,000 square meters.

10.20.2009 : IMSA Announces GT3 Cup Challenge Series

Braselton, GA - The International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) announced today, in conjunction with Porsche Motorsports North America (PMNA) and Michelin, the creation of the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge presented by Michelin, a series designed for Porsche GT3 Cup race cars.

The series will allow amateur and semi-professional drivers, those who do not make their living in motorsports, to compete in a professional environment, similar to many other GT3 Cup series around the world and will run as part of the American Le Mans Series weekends.

"IMSA is delighted to announce the formation of the GT3 Cup series," said Tim Mayer, IMSA COO. "As an organization we are dedicated to the promotion of motorsports at all levels and the GT3 Cup has proven worldwide to create great racing for the fans and for the competitors."

As part of the announcement IMSA announced that Michelin has agreed to be the title sponsor of the series. Michelin will be providing the spec tire for all competitors.

"As part of our racing heritage Michelin is proud to be a part of the first GT3 Cup Challenge in North America," said Amanda Head, Michelin Motorsports Marketing Manager. "Michelin is associated with the GT3 Cup worldwide as part of our commitment to high-performance tires. The tires used in the series reflect the quality street car tires that we are pleased to offer our customers."

The purpose-built race cars, based on the Porsche 996 body style, will have sealed engines and transmissions, providing for close racing where the driver's talents are exemplified. PMNA will provide technical support for the series with personnel, parts and expertise both away from and at the track.

"There are over 100 of these cars already in North America," said Uwe Brettel, Porsche Motorsports North America President. "Last April, during Porsche's Rennsport Reunion at Daytona, we had more than 65 cars entered in the Cup class, and we think a lot of these competitors will be interested in running this new series."

"We are thrilled to be working with Michelin and PMNA to bring this type of exciting racing to North America," said Mayer. "With support from manufacturers like Michelin and Porsche we are able to deliver professional racing to all competitors. I would also like to thank the Porsche Club of America and the Porsche Owners Club which have been very supportive as we launch this series."

The 2005 series schedule includes races at the Grand Prix of Atlanta, Apr. 15-17; American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio, May 20-22; Portland International Raceway, July 29-31 and two other races, one on the east coast and one on the west coast, to be determined at a later date.

10.20.2009 : PCA Paddock Set for Daytona Rolex 24

PCA Paddock at Daytona
2006 Rolex 24 – January 27, 28 & 29, 2006

We have finalized the preparation for the PCA Paddock at Daytona for 2006. We have an agreement with the Daytona International Speedway for a rental space in the same location as in 2005 with a parking area next to the in-field track and will include a hospitality/membership tent. The tent will again be a 20’ x 40’ with side curtains and we will have tables, chairs and a monitor television set to follow the race.

We will have security around the clock from noon on Friday, January 27th to noon on Sunday, January 29th. The Speedway has been very cooperative and they will again rope off the parking area perimeter prior to our arrival on Friday.

The Regions will be providing soft drinks and snacks in the hospitality/membership tent during the weekend. We will need to have the standard PCA waiver signed at the entrance to the parking area due to insurance considerations. Parking and attendance for our Paddock will be free to PCA members and non-members, however, parking is for Porsches only on a “first come, first served basis.”

New and exciting for this year is a "special deal" just for PCA members from the producers of the Milestones Club Day. During Friday of the Rolex 24 weekend, the Autoweek Milestone Club Day invites participants to park in the Milestone corral with many other exotic automobiles, enjoy a light breakfast in the Milestone tent and listen to a presentation about driving the road course. Noon will find the participants staging behind a pace car for two parade laps of the Daytona Speedway. Afterwards they will return to the corral and tent for lunch, an address from the Grand Marshal and a Q & A / autograph session. The cost for this event is $77 for the participants but for this year only PCA members who purchase a weekend "superticket" can enjoy this all inclusive event for only $55, a 28% discount. You must reserve and purchase the "superticket" from Daytona prior to the Rolex 24. If you are interested in the Autoweek Milestone Club Day event for 2006 please send me a letter or e-mail with your name, address and PCA membership number and you will be added to the special PCA list. Remember that you must be a PCA member and have a "superticket" to enjoy the 28% discount. If you are attending the Rolex 24 just on Friday you may still participate in the Autoweek Milestone Club Day but you will not receive the discount and you will have to pay full price.

The typical superticket for the weekend will be around $ 75.00 for the Rolex 24. Please verify this with the Daytona International Speedway web site. This provides entrance to the infield, the garage area, etc., and covers the parking fee for the infield for the four day weekend. There are lower cost admission tickets available on a daily basis. General ticket information can be obtained from the Speedway at 386-253-7223 or www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com.

We will have many folks in attendance from throughout the U.S. and abroad and I hope that we will repeat the success of 2005. Please contact me with any questions.

10.20.2009 : Winner of Club Coupe Chosen

Clif Rosenberry, a member of Metro New York Region PCA and resident of White Plains, New York, is the excited recipient of the Azurro California blue 911 Club Coupe presented by Porsche AG and Porsche Cars North America in a sweepstakes to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Porsche Club of America. A PCA member since 1999, Rosenberry turned the key that started the 911 Club Coupe in a ceremony at the Petit Le Mans Porscheplatz at Road Atlanta on October 1. His first Porsche was a 1969 911T, which he bought in 1989. A 1999 Boxster followed, subsequently replaced by a 2003 version of Porsche’s mid-engined roadster. Rosenberry will return to the 911 fold when he claims his prize in about three months. Only 50 of the limited edition 911 Club Coupes will be produced.

10.20.2009 : Porsche® Will Build Forth Model Line: Porsche Panamera®

Atlanta, July 27, 2005 -- The Supervisory Board and the Board of Management of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, gave their approval today for the development and production of another Porsche model line. To be called Panamera, the new car will be a premium-class sports coupe with four seats, four doors, and a choice of front-mounted engines driving the rear wheels.

Scheduled to enter the market in 2009, the Panamera will be the fourth model line from the Stuttgart carmaker following the 911®, the Boxster® and the Cayenne®. The new car’s name is derived from the legendary Carrera Pan¬americana long-distance race.

Production of the Panamera is to be in Leipzig, where Porsche already builds the Cayenne SUV and the Carrera GT® supercar. The final decision will require further detailed talks between the Board of Management of Porsche AG and the Management of Porsche Leipzig GmbH with representatives of the employees. Porsche's total in¬vestment in the new model line, including development, will be more than Euro 1 billion and will come entirely from the company’s own funds. Expected sales are at least 20,000 units a year.

"The Panamera is a perfect fit for Porsche,” said Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, the President and CEO of Porsche AG. “It has all the typical DNA charac¬teristic of a ge¬nuine sports car. In terms of performance, design, and driving dynamics, it meets Porsche's high standards in every respect. Through this sports coupe we are making our customers a highly attractive offer in the top performance segment."

Porsche will develop and build the Panamera using the com¬pany's own resources. "We will be developing a separate platform for our fourth model line at our Weissach R&D center,” said Wiedeking. “There are no plans for a joint venture with another car maker, but to ensure the profitability of this new model line we will cooperate more closely than so far with selected system suppliers."

Production of the Panamera in Leipzig would po¬ten¬tially create some 600 new jobs there. In the course of the project, approximately 400 more new jobs will be created at Porsche's original plant in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, where the engines for the fourth model line will be built, and at the Weissach Development Center.

Like the 911, the Boxster and the Cay¬enne, the Panamera will bear the "Made in Germany" stamp of quality. Domestic share of the Panamera’s overall assembled value will be approximately 70 percent.

10.20.2009 : Porsche® 911® Club Coupe Sweepstakes Winner

NANUET, N.Y., FEB. 2, 2006 --- Clif Rosenberry, a Porsche Club of America (PCA) member from White Plains, N.Y., and winner of the Porsche 911 Club Coupe Sweepstakes grand prize, took delivery of his new 911 Carrera today at Prestige Porsche in Nanuet, New York. The car is just one of 50 special-edition 911 Club Coupes created by Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) and Porsche AG to commemorate the PCA's 50th Anniversary.

Surrounded by family, friends and fellow PCA members, Rosenberry accepted the keys for 911 Club Coupe #50 from Jack Bair, Porsche Clubs Consultant.

“This is an unbelievable prize – and a truly unbelievable car! On behalf of all the Porsche Club of America members in the United States and Canada, I say thank you,” Rosenberry said to the smiling group of onlookers. “Porsche Cars North America has always been there for the clubs, and this was a wonderful birthday present to the club,” Rosenberry added, “and, of course, it is a great present for me too!”

“I hope the weather is warm enough tonight,” his wife remarked. “I know he is going to wind up sleeping out in the garage with it tonight!” The 911 Club Coupe, painted Azurro California metallic blue -- a modern interpretation of azure blue, a color made popular on Porsche 356 sports cars when the PCA was founded 50 years ago – has stainless steel doorsills with the 911 Club Coupe logo, a badge on the driver’s side door trim indicating its individual number in the series of 50 cars, and an X51 Powerkit that increases the 3.8-liter, flat-Six cylinder Carrera S engine's output from 355 to 381 horsepower, and peak torque from 295 to 306 ft-lb.

Distinguished by its carbon fiber air cleaner housing, the X51 Powerkit boosts performance through a series of engine enhancements including a larger throttle body, optimized intake airflow, cylinder heads and exhaust manifold modifications, changes in the engine control unit, and the inclusion of a sport exhaust system. The result produces a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.4 seconds and a top track speed of 186 mph. The suggested retail pricing for the 911 Club Coupe begins at $99,911 USD and $145,911 CAD.

Of the 50 911 Club Coupes created, 48 were offered up for sale to PCA members. PCNA created a special website where several thousand U.S. and Canadian PCA members registered to purchase one of the cars, which have all been sold. Of the two remaining cars, one went to the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, Germany, while the other was used as the 911 Club Coupe Sweepstakes grand prize. More than 10,000 PCA members entered the 911 Club Coupe Sweepstakes.

10.20.2009 : RegionFocus 20.4 now available - Online Member Record Management

RegionFocus issue 20.4 is now available here.

Every organization has a few critical personnel behind the scenes who make all the difference. These are the guys and gals who know the inside line. Everything they touch turns to gold through their incredible talents, indefatigable energies, and buoyant enthusiasm in the best and worst of times. If an organization is lucky, one of these people is an expert in IT and can make your computer networks and software applications function like a well- oiled machine. PCA is fortunate to have its own IT wunderkind in the person of Jim Selders, who is arguably one of the smartest guys on the National Staff. To list all of what Jim has done for the National Office and the improvements/ applications he has made in the way PCA supports its members through information technology would require an issue of Panorama unto itself. He has touched so many different aspects of how we do business that his influence and support will be felt for years to come. For this issue of Regionfocus, Jim describes the new improvements he has affected at the National Office for on-line records management. These improvements directly impact your PCA region, because now your membership chair can manage records of your region’s members with direct access to the National Office files 24/7. For many region boards and membership chairs who have experienced varying degrees of frustration over the past few years on membership files, this is what you’ve been waiting for. Hopefully, this article will serve as an entry point for your region’s board and membership chair on the fantastic improvements Jim has made on our PCA’s IT support for our regions. I encourage all Region boards to thank Jim for all of his volunteer work and dedication to the Club. We could not be where we are today without him.

10.20.2009 : Daytona International Speedway to Host Porsche Rennsport Reunion III in November of 2007

Contact: Bob Carlson, Porsche Cars North America 770-290-3676

Andy Schupack, Kermish-Geylin Public Relations 401-739-5677

DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY TO HOST PORSCHE RENNSPORT REUNION III IN NOVEMBER OF 2007

World’s Largest Gathering of Porsche Race Cars and Drivers to Highlight Porsche 917 and Celebrate 25th Anniversary of Porsche 956/962

ATLANTA, GA – Dec. 20, 2006 — Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) and Daytona International Speedway today announced Porsche Rennsport Reunion III will take place at the famed Florida racetrack the weekend of November 2-4, 2007.

Sponsored by PCNA and organized by Brian Redman’s Intercontinental Events, Inc., Porsche Rennsport Reunion III is open to the public and brings together an unprecedented gathering of significant Porsche vintage and current racecars and those who have driven them to victory in the world’s most famous sports car races. It features a three-day program of on-track competition plus a concours d’elegance, which is open to the event’s participants by invitation. In addition, special activities are planned honoring the series of awesome Porsche 917 racecars and commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the racing debut of the all-conquering Porsche 956/962 prototype racers.

Held at three-year intervals, the third edition of Porsche Rennsport Reunion returns to Daytona International Speedway following that track’s highly successful staging of Porsche Rennsport Reunion II in 2004. On that occasion, more than 600 Porsche racecars and dozens of legendary Porsche race drivers participated in a truly memorable weekend dedicated to Porsche’s motorsport heritage.

“Given the tremendous response to our last event there,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, president and chief executive officer of Porsche Cars North America, “Daytona International Speedway is the logical choice as the site for Porsche Rennsport Reunion III. It is filled with Porsche racing history and is one of the few tracks in America capable of conducting an event of this magnitude.”

Porsche Rennsport Reunion III will honor two of Porsche’s most historic racing models – the Porsche 917 and Porsche 956/962. In coupe form, the 12-cylinder 917/K was the first Porsche to score an overall win the 24 Hours of Le Mans, scoring back-to-back victories in the 1970 and 1971 editions of the French racing classic. Fitted with twin-turbochargers producing more than 1000 horsepower, the mighty open-cockpit 917/10 and 917/30 rocketed to Sports Car Club of America Can-Am championships in 1972 and 1973. These achievements by the 917 moved Porsche to the forefront of the sports car racing world.

Since making its Le Mans debut in 1982 with a stunning one-two-three overall finish, the Porsche 956 and its 962 stable mate have established themselves as the most successful models in the history of international sports car racing. Among their record number of overall victories spanning 14 seasons are seven in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, six in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and four in the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Additional details of the Porsche Rennsport Reunion will be published on Porsche’s press web site (www.press.porsche.com), Brian Redman’s Intercontinental Events web site (www.rennsport2007.com), and Daytona International Speedway’s web site (http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/), as they become available. Ticket information is available by contacting Daytona International Speedway at 1-800-PITSHOP. ###

10.20.2009 : RegionFocus 20.5 now available - Zone 10 Best Practices

RegionFocus issue 20.5 is now available here. This issue is about Zone 10 Best Practices.

When Regionfocus was started back in 1987, one of the goals for the newsletter was sharing best practices and success stories from around the Club so that other regions might benefit. Zone 10 Rep John Phillips regularly includes such information from around his Zone in his monthly column to his regions, and I was truly impressed with how many great ideas and activities are occurring in an area of the country where harsh and early winters usually constrain the driving season. What follows are some true successes to be shared and perhaps duplicated and/or modified to fit your own region’s line up of activities and events. Enjoy- and please feel free to copy- there’s no law against using proven formulas of success.

10.20.2009 : Dyson, Porsche Reunite for Two-car RS Spyder Effort

AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES MEDIA RELEASE:

DYSON, PORSCHE REUNITE FOR TWO-CAR RS SPYDER EFFORT

Dyson Racing will field two Porsche RS Spyders for the 2007 American Le Mans Series season. Dyson Racing is returning to its roots. One of the top independent teams in the American Le Mans Series, the Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-based organization will field two Porsche RS Spyders in the Series' growing LMP2 class for the 2007 season. Dyson Racing joins Penske Motorsports as teams fielding the revolutionary prototype from Porsche.

An active participant in the American Le Mans Series since its formation in 1999, Dyson Racing has posted eight class victories and won the Series' LMP675 championship in 2003 as Chris Dyson won the drivers crown. For 2007, Dyson will again team with Guy Smith in the No. 20 entry with Butch Leitzinger and Andy Wallace in the No. 16.

"We will be competing next year with a proven package that has race data and advancement behind it," Chris Dyson said. "Porsche won the American Le Mans Series championship last year and that is a strong selling point. Our team will be racing at the most competitive level in the Series where new teams, drivers and manufactures are going to be focusing their considerable resources. We will be able to showcase who we are as a team and concentrate on winning races and championships."

Dyson Racing will have one of its two Porsche RS Spyders for the third annual American Le Mans Series Winter Test. The team expects to take delivery of one car in time for the annual American Le Mans Series Winter Test at Sebring in late January, with the second car due to arrive in February. Both cars will be on the grid for the season-opening 55th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Porsche is the most successful manufacturer in Series history with 65 class wins including eight with the RS Spyder under the factory-supported Penske Motorsports banner. Dyson Racing represents Porsche's first customer program in LMP2, which will see entries from Acura, Mazda, Lola, Radical and Courage next year.

"When we announced our American Le Mans Series participation in Atlanta in April 2005, it was our target to have the RS Spyder raced by customer teams in 2007," said Hartmut Kristen, head of Porsche Motorsport worldwide. "So having the Dyson team as a customer is exactly what we were going for. We will continue our development work together with the Penske Motorsports team and we are going to do all the testing with them.

Dyson Racing posted 12 victories in Porsche 962s from 1985-1991."The results of this work and the new developments will be made available to our customer teams as well. This is a very clear arrangement. The RS Spyders for Penske and Dyson are exactly the same 2007 models, and the engines we are providing to the teams are identical as well," added Kristen, who indicated that Porsche will provide a factory race engine engineer and a Porsche RS Spyder race engineer to the Dyson team.

Dyson Racing has a rich history with Porsche by fielding 962s in IMSA GTP. From 1985-1991, Dyson Racing Porsches posted 12 victories and 14 podiums as it established itself as one of America's premier sports car team. Team owner Rob Dyson believes this latest opportunity will further that tradition and ensure continued success for both Dyson Racing and Porsche.

"The 962 was an exquisite looking race car," noted Rob Dyson. "And like the old air plane adage, if it looks right, it will fly right. It was a great car to drive and that is what Porsche does best, building ultimate customer race cars with their renowned engineering and support behind them. To combine that Porsche perfection with our successful tradition brings a whole new level of enthusiasm to our team for the upcoming season. This is a reuniting of old family members, building on our partnership of mutual respect and a shared winning history."

The two categories in the contest are known as the Index Category started in 1990 and the Actual Growth Category added in 1998. About our featured speaker at the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge technical presentation presented by LP Watch Group

Dennis Aase began his career behind the wheel winning his first driving championship, the SCCA Pacific Division C-P title in 1973. From there he competed in the 1974 Can-Am championship finishing the season points in the top-10. He competed regularly in IMSA through the late ‘70s before signing to drive the potent BMW M-1 for the 1980 IMSA GTO season. He would win five races in the car over the course of the ‘80/’81 seasons. He continued to race in multiple classes in IMSA, including the prestigious GTP class with great teams such as Akin Motorsports, Moretti/MOMO and the legendary Al Holbert into the ‘80s.

In 1983, Aase’s skills as a driver were rewarded with a ride in the Toyota factory team of Dan Gurney’s All American Racers. Piloting the GTO class Toyota Celica and later developing the Toyota MK-I GTP car that would revolutionize sports car racing. He remained at AAR until retiring in the late ‘80s. Over the course of his career as a driver, Aase would take his place in the top-10 in all-time IMSA wins and the most pole positions in GTO class history. Not one to rest on his laurels, Aase and his brother, Dave, started Aase Brothers Porsche Car Dismantlers. He would sell out to Dave in 1994 to focus on AASCO Performance. Aase’s talent and long tradition with Toyota led to AASCO running the Firehawk series Toyota factory effort in 1995, preparing Toyota Celicas for the Long Beach Grand Prix celebrity event and pace cars for the CART series.

An AASCO-managed team also won the IMSA GT-3 championship with Jorge Trejos in 1995. Since the late ‘90s, Aase has prepared Porsches for Rolex Series first with EMC AASCO Racing and then with BoDuck AASCO Racing. In 2002 and 2003, Aase prepared and managed the Porsche Club of America (PCA) on-track effort of Gary Becker, Joe Kunz and Mark Webber before signing to prepare and manage the AASCO Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Rolex Series entry in late 2003 and the full 2004 season.

10.20.2009 : Membership Contest Standings - November 2008

Wild Rose Region remains in the lead in the Factored Growth Membership Contest with Upper Canada Region continuting in the lead in the Actual Growth Contest.

There is still one month remaining in this year's contests, so help your region by recruiting members and keeping the ones that you already have.

The top 5 Regions in the Factored Growth (Index) and Actual Growth categories are:

Factored Growth (Index)

Wild Rose 116.74
Upper Canada 116.42
Red River 114.42
Lone Star 110.33
Grand Prix 91.72

Actual Growth

Upper Canada 140
Lone Star 100
Chicago 92
Rennsport 61
Carolinas 58

It is expected this year that the Porsche Club of America will again award each Region who wins the contest a cash prize for winning the contest.

You can help your Region win one of the contests by recruiting members for the club and encouraging current members to renew their membership.

The two categories in the contest are known as the Factored Growth (Index) Category started in 1990 and the Actual Growth Category added in 1998. The Factored Growth (Index) Category winner is determined by a formula which equalizes the opportunity of any Region to win for the Factored Growth (Index) Category. The Region with the largest actual growth is the winner of the Actual Growth Category. A region can only win one category in any given year. Should the same Region actually have both the largest actual growth and the highest factored growth (index) they will be declared ineligible for one and only awarded the trophy/prize for the other. If you need additional information on how the two contests work see the Region Procedures Manual or contact the National Membership Committee.

10.20.2009 : PCA To Stop Production Of Up Fixin’

Due to strongly reduced member demand for Up Fixin’, the club will stop producing new volumes of the books which contain the technical material which has appeared in Panorama over the years.

Additionally, we will make available to interested members, regions and zones for shipping and handling costs only, complete sets of the manuals until supplies are exhausted, or until January 31, 2006, whichever occurs first (approximately 900 sets). Subsequent to that date, any remaining inventory will be disposed of.

Members wishing to pick up a set at the National Office may avoid the shipping charges (please give several days notice). Distribution will be restricted to one set per member to facilitate the widest distribution of remaining volumes to our members.

Contact the PCA office to order a set. Once the sets have been spoken for, there are also single copies available of most volumes other than volume 6 - no restrictions on numbers requested. Shipping and handling is $25/US, $35 Canadian, $50 International -- must be paid in advance by check or credit card.

A number of sets of the manuals will be retained for historical purposes.

January starts a new contest year with all regions eligible. Use your good ideas and thoughts to see what you can do in your own region in retention and recruitment.

The top 5 Regions in the Factored Growth (Index) and Actual Growth categories are:

Factored Growth (Index)

Sierra Nevada 162.28
West Texas 139.00
Acadia 113.83
Palmetto 106.08
Rennsport 96.82

Actual Growth

Lone Star 69
Chicago 66
Rennsport 65
Oregon 64
Sierra Nevada 63

The club had a growth for the year 1119 members. All new applications are currently being processed within 48 hours of receipt in the National Office.

It is expected this year that the Porsche Club of America will again award each Region who wins the contest a cash payment for winning the contest.

You can help your Region win one of the contests by recruiting members for the club and encouraging current members to renew their membership.

The two categories in the contest are known as the Index Category started in 1990 and the Actual Growth Category added in 1998. The Index Category winner is determined by a formula which equalizes the opportunity for any Region to win for the Index Category. The Region with the largest actual growth is the winner of the Actual Growth Category. A region can only win one category in any given year. Should the same Region actually have both the largest actual growth and highest index they will be declared ineligible for one and only awarded the trophy/prize for the other. In you need additional information on how the two contests work see the Region Procedures Manual or contact the National Membership Committee.

10.20.2009 : PCA Open House

PCA Annual Open House

The annual Porsche Club of America Headquarters Open House is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2009. Executive Director Vu Nguyen has once again arranged a tremendous event to showcase PCA's National Office and the great collection of Porsche and PCA memorabilia.  The National Office is located at 8003 Forbes Place, Suite 310, Springfield, VA 22151, located just off the Braddock Road West exit of the Capitol Beltway I-495. The Open House is scheduled for 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, rain or shine.

Several vendors are scheduled to be on site. The event will start at 10:00 AM with a social in the parking lot. Refreshments will be provided. Beginning at 11:00 AM, Vu will personally lead guided tours of the PCA offices. He will present snippets of PCA history, facts and day-to-day activities. A real treat will be the ability to see the Helmut Bott Collection of Porsche memorabilia presented to PCA last year. At 1:30 PM Vu will wind things up with a raffle for some great door prizes.

Come on out and support PCA's Open House! RSVP admin@pca.org
