11/1/2009 - Fall Rally - Brats at Big Canoe

Don't forget the time change this weekend! Set your clock back 1 hour on Saturday night! The 2009 "Brats at Big Canoe Rally" will be held on Sunday, November 1st; we will meet at the King's residence at 12:30 (directions follow), first car out at 2:00, with a planned arrival at Big Canoe for the Brats feed at about 4:00. The Rally will end at the Big Canoe Lodge with Brats and all the fixings served up by Big Canoe residents Lauren Grant and Karen Lowe with some help from Jack & Kathy Baker and other friends & volunteers; please remember to BYOB. This is always a fun event and it WILL be a low-key rally with the primary objective being to get everyone to the party while driving some neat roads along the way. Any questions, please call your friendly rallymaster, Dick Kjellsen, at 678-634-9241; there will be an entry fee of $10 per car and a food fee of $5 per person (Big Hint: Rally Workers eat for free!). We need to order the food in advance so please let me know that you are coming; best way is email to rckjellsen@gmail.com. If you want to skip the rally you may meet us at the Big Canoe Lodge around 4:00 but be sure to let us know you're coming so we have enough food. Directions to the home of Brian & Lisa King (2130 Carrera Ct, Cumming) : take GA400 to Exit #12-McFarland Rd. Go East on McFarland for 0.6 miles then left onto Shiloh Rd. (second Traffic Light). It is a business park with a bronze statue of horses at the entrance. Proceed approximately 1.8 miles through a stop sign and then the third left is Stoney Point Rd. Proceed approximately 0.7 miles, past a private airfield, and turn left on Carrera Ct (go slow). Stay left and the King's driveway is at the end of the cul-de-sac. Yes, we do stand up and make announcements and talk about current club events, so it's sort-of a meeting. But mainly, it's just an opportunity to get together for good conversation. Please join us for the Arizona Region’s 32nd annual Concours, Awards Banquet and Autocross, Phoenix Flight 32 which will be held in rustic Carefree, AZ, north of Phoenix. A “Good Luck” cocktail party will open the event Friday the 13th with a Concours on Saturday the 14th in Carefree’s town center, followed by a charity Awards Banquet. A Zone 8 Autocross will close the weekend on Sunday the 15th. This year’s charity will be the Foundation for Blind Children. Visit the event website.

Internationally famous racing driver and member of 2 World Championship-winning teams for the Porsche factory. Brian is also a 3-time Formula 5000 champion, IMSA champion and winner of more than 20 major endurance races. He is one of the founding fathers of the vintage racing movement and one of the greatest ambassadors for motor sport in general. Here’s a chance to meet someone who has crossed paths with legendary figures such as Ferry Porsche, Enzo Ferrari, Roger Penske, Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, Jim Clark, Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx and a host of others!

Garth Stein
Author of the highly successful novel “The Art of Racing in the Rain”. In addition to being a successful novelist and playwright, Stein is also a filmmaker and producer. Raised in Seattle, he returned to live in the Northwest after 18 years in New York City. “The Art of Racing In The Rain” is a unique narrative told from the point of view of Enzo, the race driving main character’s loyal dog. Patrick Dempsey plans to produce and star in a movie version of this book.

Porsche of the Village has extended an invitation to host our annual anniversary party "Palooza" again this year. This is a BYOB event, so you can enjoy the beverage of your choice. Soft drinks and water will be provided. Our speaker for the evening will be OVR's own John Meyer addressing his experience with "One Lap of America." Or in his own words, "In which our long suffering but highly motivated Concours Chairman will discuss the highs and lows of driving eight days and 10 race tracks connected by 4000 miles in a 36 year old 911 with no air conditioning, cruise control or radio in the very close company of a friend of 32 years (and former OVR President). For those so inclined, the pre reading assignment is the August edition of Motor Trend Magazine, page 86.

December 4, 2009 PCA - "The Florida Crown - Triple Crown" of Club Racing Are you ready for some racing at the Historic Roebling Roads Raceway ? The Historic Roebling Roads Raceway will be the site of the "The Florida Crown - Triple Crown" of Club Racing and will be run on December 4, 5, & 6, that's Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A test and tune will be provided by Autometrics on Thursday the 3rd. This will be the best little race at the best little track hosted by the friendliest region around, the most challenging drivers, challenging track, southern hospitality and more...... Our holiday party is always well-attended and lots of fun. Many games, prizes, awards, and special treats for everyone. The holiday planning committee has done an outstanding job this year to make it the best celebration ever. Thanks to the Strublic's for bringing back MANY goodies from the Porsche Museum which will be on the silent auction tables. All money raised goes towards out contribution to Multiple Sclerosis.
