DUNLOP Oregon Region Driver’s Education and AutoCross with Parade

Autocross #1

The Oregon Region, Porsche Club of America (ORPCA) will be conducting Driver’s Education (DE) Days on Friday and Saturday, August 11th and 12th, 2006, at the Portland International Raceway. Since you are here and got to see most of the Portland area at freeway speeds or slower, why not drive your Porsche on the track, in the environment it was designed for?

The Driver’s Education event participation is limited so register soon.  The DE fee is $135.00 for one day or $250 for both days until July 4th.  After July 4th the price increases by $10 per day. Preregistration opens on March the 10th. Registration is quick and easy on line and we have a great program for novice through advanced drivers. We also welcome PCA nationally certified instructors. The registration link is available on the Oregon Region Web site. www.oregonpca.org select Driver from the left side menu.

Autocross #1If DE is not your thing then maybe Autocross is for you. Our post Parade Autocross course will be a bit more challenging and we will be competing with a broader range of cars/drivers too. The autocross will be held on Saturday the 12th, in the PIR Pro-pits. The fee is $35.00 and participants will get from 4 to 6 runs depending on the number of drivers participating. Come on out and try your skill against the course. Please take some time to read about our program and policies by going to www.oregonpca.org and select Autocross from the left side menu.

Event Information
The 2006 Post-Parade Driver Education and Autocross Event is a two day event. Participants can elect to participate on one or both days. The event will be held at Portland International Raceway (PIR) which is about 5 minutes from the Parade hotel site. The event dates are August 11th and 12th with the gates opening each day at 7 am and finishing up at 5 pm. All Porsche models are eligible to participate in this event. The only restriction is cabriolets that do not have factory integrated roll over protection, must have PCA approved roll over protection installed.

The Track
PIR is a 12 turn 1.96 Mile road course used by CART and ALMS when they are in town. PIR started its life many years ago after the Columbia River flooded and destroyed the town of Vanport. Vanport was a housing area that was built during World War II to support the construction of Liberty ships along the banks of the Columbia River. PIR is primarily a right turn track with plenty of run off in most areas. There is ample parking space for tow vehicles as well as RV’s at the track.

The Program
We will have four run groups arranged into 20 minute sessions and each driver will get approximately 80 minutes of Track time per day. The Run groups are divided by driver skill and experience level. Novice/Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level, with the last run group being the Instructors. ORPCA qualified instructors will be available for anyone that requests them on an availability basis. We start the day with Check in and Tech inspection opening at 7 am, a Driver Safety Meeting at approximately 8:15 am followed by a Track Orientation session around 9 am. The first run group out is the Advanced group. We will provide Lunch, Sponsored by Sunset Imports. At the end of each day we must clear the paddock before 6 pm as there are evening drag races that occur.

Spectators
Spectators are welcome at the event. There is ample seating and the perimeter road will be open for you to travel around the track and observe the event at various vantage points. Note that PIR is a public Park and the park speed limit (15 MPH) is enforced by the Portland Police.

Registration
To register for and find out more about this event and our program you must visit www.oregonpca.org, select Driver Ed from the left side menu. It is important for participants to understand the procedures and rules we follow to ensure a smooth and safe operation.
The online registration links are available at the Oregon Region web site www.oregonpca.org. You parade registration does not include these events but it does give you registration/participation priority. The registration for these two events opens March 10th.
