Event Information
The 2006 Post-Parade Driver Education and Autocross Event is a two day
event. Participants can elect to participate on one or both days. The
event will be held at Portland International Raceway (PIR) which is
about 5 minutes from the Parade hotel site. The event dates are August
11th and 12th with the gates opening each day at 7 am and finishing up
at 5 pm. All Porsche models are eligible to participate in this event.
The only restriction is cabriolets that do not have factory integrated
roll over protection, must have PCA approved roll over protection
installed.
The Track
PIR is a 12 turn 1.96 Mile road course used by CART and ALMS when they
are in town. PIR started its life many years ago after the Columbia
River flooded and destroyed the town of Vanport. Vanport was a housing
area that was built during World War II to support the construction of
Liberty ships along the banks of the Columbia River. PIR is primarily a
right turn track with plenty of run off in most areas. There is ample
parking space for tow vehicles as well as RV’s at the track.
The Program
We will have four run groups arranged into 20 minute sessions and each
driver will get approximately 80 minutes of Track time per day. The Run
groups are divided by driver skill and experience level.
Novice/Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced level, with the last run
group being the Instructors. ORPCA qualified instructors will be
available for anyone that requests them on an availability basis. We
start the day with Check in and Tech inspection opening at 7 am, a
Driver Safety Meeting at approximately 8:15 am followed by a Track
Orientation session around 9 am. The first run group out is the
Advanced group. We will provide Lunch, Sponsored by Sunset Imports. At
the end of each day we must clear the paddock before 6 pm as there are
evening drag races that occur.
Spectators
Spectators are welcome at the event. There is ample seating and the
perimeter road will be open for you to travel around the track and
observe the event at various vantage points. Note that PIR is a public
Park and the park speed limit (15 MPH) is enforced by the Portland
Police.
